The brief was to provide a flexible house that could be used for holiday rental or as a future city house if the clients moved out of Sydney. The house was also to be experimental and original in nature, showcasing Robert Plumb Projects’ building capacity, while also prioritising the garden, to be designed by Will’s landscape company DBS, as an integral part of the house. The bohemian home of fashion designer Ulla Johnson
We’ve been devoted fans of Ulla Johnson‘s unique brand of effortlessly cool, ethereal creations for years now, and it seems that lately, the whole world is catching on and has become as obsessed as we are. When she’s not creating pieces for her highly coveted collection (which is crafted using textiles mostly made by female artisans), the mum of three can be found spending time with her art dealer husband, two sons, and daughter in their beautiful light-filled Fort Greene row house.
Here, we give you a peek inside her inspiring home which was featured in Architectural Digest on 6th August 2019.

The newest and most exclusive villa created in Seminyak…
The Cotton House
Caribbean style meets Indonesian influence at this bright, breezy and utterly chic Bali vacation rental. Perfectly located in the midst of the Seminyak and Petitenget district, The Cotton House brings inspiration from across the globe, with a beautiful combination of entertainment, relaxation and accommodation spaces.
Everything about this property is done with total attention to detail. From the moment you walk through the stunning blue gates, through to the luscious lawns and several different pavilions of white housing – all with modern design yet adorned with unique furnishings and artwork to still give it that “warm” feeling.
The house is separated into 4 extensive pavilions. The first is a two storey two bedroom fully self contained villa with its own plunge pool and extensive tropical gardens. Within a short walk you arrive at pavilion two which is centrally located in the garden. The third pavilion houses the vast entertainment area including indoor and outdoor dining tables, a bar and beautifully crafted living spaces. Linked by a covered walkway from the entertainment pavilion the last and largest pavilion houses five bedrooms all with separate bathroom suites and dressing rooms.
THE LIVING AREAS
With living and dining areas in three of the four pavilions and nearly 15,000 square feet of living space, there’s ample room to relax quietly or gather all together. Architect Hetta Thynne took cues from the great houses of the Caribbean when planning the pitched roofline, rows of French doors and colonnaded walkways; the tropical elegance continues inside in a mix of vintage and modern furnishings, and bold patterns. Though chef service is included, a fully equipped kitchen is available.
The eight bedrooms at The Cotton House are divided among two pavilions: five bedrooms in one, two in the other. There are six bedrooms with king beds, including three honeymoon-worthy suites with al-fresco showers, and two bedroom with two twin beds. All eight bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms.
Secluded, peaceful, and beautifully decorated, this property is truly luxurious and is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the company of your family and friends. For further details on bookings, click here.
