Globe-trotting Designer Michelle Nussbaumer’s
Bohemian Luxe Getaway in San Miguel
Globe-trotting and super stylish Dallas designer Michelle Nussbaumer likes to go big and exotic. So it was no surprise to us that when Michelle and her husband, Bernard Nussbaumer (movie producer and cofounder of Texas’s Buda Juice beverage bars), found a dated building to do up as their holiday home in San Miguel de Allende, that the end result was only going to be as visually captivating as her Dallas home – dramatically furnished, with a mix of global treasures.
Nothing Michelle Nussbaumer had seen in the romantic Spanish Colonial city of San Miguel was pleasing her eye. She was after something ‘unusual’ so one afternoon when Nussbaumer spotted a dilapidated wall and decided to climb over it, she knew when she saw the stunning U-shaped building dating back to 16th century that it was absolutely perfect. With the help of friends, she tracked down the owner and bought the home on a handshake (which is apparently very uncommon in Mexico). Thus the name that she and her husband chose for their new home away from home: Hacienda Buena Fe, the House of Good Faith.
Not surprisingly, the interiors are anything but minimal with the home giving off an authentic, Mexican vibe, exactly what Michelle desired. Many of the details bear witness to her inspiringly collector approach to design, architecture, and landscapes and perfectly compliment the inspirational and vibrant city of San Miguel.
