Hotel Esencia
Halfway between Tulum and Playa del Carmen on Mexico’s Caribbean shoreline is the majestic 50-acre estate Hotel Esencia. Originally built as the private hideaway of an Italian duchess on the most beautiful stretch of sand of the Mayan Riviera, it later became a hotel continues to be a sought after destination for honeymooners and pleasure seekers.
The estate’s provenance as a place of leisure for nobility was the guiding inspiration for an extensive facelift, completed in 2014. The Main House remains the hotel’s centrepiece, around which footpaths lead to only 29 suites and villas. Ideally situated far from huge resorts and the roar of pleasure boats, the immaculate bay of Xpu-Ha is a natural haven where each year sea turtles make their nests. Paradise found.
