We’re Loving…
…the all-white palette and beautifully curated, ethnic-inspired collection of Noosa interiors mecca Alabaster Trader. Founder Karmin Kenny scours the globe for unique furnishings and homewares that she ships back to Australia to be showcased in her store.
“I focus mostly on one-off antiques from Rajasthan and Gujarat and I have every one of them refinished to achieve the Alabaster look,” explains the enigmatic Kenny. “When I see a piece that speaks to me, I visualise what the best finish would be – white, whitewash, grey, bleached or natural.”
Her unique and hands-on approach results in longer supply times and more expense, but she says it’s worth it to create something people haven’t seen before. “Sometimes it’s like magic, seeing a 100-year-old wedding chest that was old and bright blue transformed into something totally different.”
