Coogee Pavilion Rooftop

Ah Mr Hemmes, you’ve done it again.

The Merivale bon vivant and creator of some of Sydney’s finest hospitality interiors (in our humble opinion), Justin Hemme’s Coogee Pavilion Rooftop is quite the ode to a bohemian luxe aesthetic. With a slightly eccentric fit out and styling inspired by a fictional character dreamt up by Hemmes and the design team (an eccentric botanist who once lived upstairs and whose conservatory had been uncovered by subsequent owners) the space makes the most of its dreamy, beach-front location, showcasing breathtaking views across Coogee Beach and the ocean beyond. Patio-style furnishings, cascading plants, weathered garden urns, floral cushions and glass walls and windows in place of solid partitions create an effortless indoor-outdoor vibe.

Design details include custom-made fabrics emblazoned with artwork of exotic birds and tables painted by local artist Mayriel Luke. Specimen cabinets filled with marine life double as tables, and a custom light fixture of a whale illuminates a back wall. The colour palette is all beach-cabana with muted blues and greens mingling with whites, natural woods and painted metals.

The atmosphere? A chic retake of a 1960’s beach resort. Get your Gidget on and book in for a summery lunch.
